As a Radio Sonographer, you will play a critical role in diagnosing and evaluating patients’ health conditions, especially in emergency scenarios, while contributing to a team-oriented, patient-centered work environment. This is an on-site, full-time position.
Key Responsibilities
As a Radio Sonographer at Valley Hospital, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Performing Ultrasonography: Execute ultrasound scans with precision, focusing on emergency cases like ectopic pregnancies, appendicitis, and pancreatitis. Apply FAST (Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma) techniques when required.
- Managing X-ray Modalities: Operate various X-ray equipment, including IOPA (Intra-Oral Periapical X-Ray) and C-arm machines, ensuring patient safety and diagnostic accuracy.
- Conducting Special Examinations: Perform and interpret specialized examinations such as HSG (Hysterosalpingography), MCU (Micturating Cystourethrogram), and barium swallow/meal procedures.
- Patient Interaction and Communication: Maintain a professional and compassionate approach in interactions with patients, providing clear explanations about procedures and fostering a comfortable environment.
- Documentation and Reporting: Prepare accurate, detailed reports of imaging results to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating patients effectively.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other radiologists, radiographers, and healthcare staff to optimize patient care and enhance workflow efficiency in the radiology department.
Qualifications and Skills
To excel in this role, you will need the following qualifications and skills:
- Education: Diploma in Medical Imaging Sciences or Radiography from a recognized institution. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
- Experience: At least three years in a busy healthcare facility, with a strong emphasis on ultrasonography and X-ray modalities.
- Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in emergency ultrasonography and familiarity with X-ray procedures, including specialized scans (e.g., HSG, MCU).
- Licensing: Current registration with the Kenya Nuclear Regulation Authority (KNRA) and a valid practicing license.
- Attributes: Strong communication skills, compassion, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team-oriented environment.
