Key Responsibilities

As the Relationship Manager, SME, you will:

  • Develop strategies to manage and grow customer relationships in the SME sector, ensuring that Gulf African Bank is positioned as a market leader.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with clients, senior management, and other stakeholders to drive revenue growth.
  • Create long-term partnerships with new and existing clients, fostering trust and mutual benefits.
  • Stay updated on external market factors such as economic, procedural, and regulatory changes that may influence business decisions.
  • Maintain accurate customer data and track progress within the customer relationship management (CRM) system, ensuring that all information is updated and relevant.
  • Regularly evaluate relationship performance to ensure a good return on investment for each customer.
  • Take timely action to mitigate risks, ensuring that portfolio stewardship and control measures are effectively implemented.
  • Cross-sell the bank’s products to both existing and new clients, ensuring a full suite of financial services is available to meet client needs.
  • File detailed call reports after customer visits, documenting feedback, potential new product needs, and credit-relevant information.
  • Develop and maintain a high-quality client portfolio, managing the entire credit cycle to meet targets for assets, liabilities, and non-funded income (NFI).
  • Prepare and submit branch periodic SME business growth plans, ensuring they align with overall company strategy.
  • Promote the active use of Credit and Treasury facilities, helping clients manage their financial requirements.
  • Monitor clients consistently to ensure no defaults on payments and track any changes in their financial circumstances.
  • Proactively identify new business opportunities and participate in sector development activities relevant to the SME banking industry.
  • Evaluate credit proposals and ensure timely processing of credit applications to meet the bank’s set turnaround times.
  • Implement strategies to improve customer service and ensure effective retention of key SME clients.

Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in the Relationship Manager, SME role, candidates should possess the following:

  • A Business Degree from a recognized university with a major in Finance, Marketing, or Economics.
  • A relevant post-graduate qualification such as AKIB is an added advantage.
  • Proven experience of at least 2 years in a similar role, ideally in relationship management or business banking within the SME sector.
  • Strong credit appraisal techniques and report-writing skills are essential for success in this role.
