Job Summary

KEDA (Kenya) Ceramics is seeking a qualified Chinese Translator with a minimum of two years’ experience to join our team. This role requires the ability to translate technical documents, provide real-time translation during meetings, and support communication between departments. The Chinese Translator will work closely with the production team to ensure effective communication and coordination in all tasks, adhering to company policies and procedures.


Key Responsibilities

As the Chinese Translator, you will be responsible for the following tasks:

  1. Translation of Production Plans: Develop and translate master production plans based on the replenishment strategy, ensuring all team members understand their roles.
  2. Daily Translation Duties: Perform daily translation tasks related to production operations, ensuring smooth communication between Chinese-speaking staff and other team members.
  3. Inspection and Compliance: Conduct regular inspections within the production department, ensuring compliance with 6S ethics and addressing any discrepancies or safety concerns.
  4. Raw Material Inventory Control: Monitor and control raw material inventory, analyzing stock levels and recommending improvements to enhance material turnover.
  5. Monthly SOP Meetings: Participate in Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) meetings, translating key points and providing input on operational improvements.
  6. Production Schedule Management: Follow up on production schedules to ensure on-time achievement of targets, translating and communicating any changes to the team.
  7. Troubleshooting Mechanical Issues: Track mechanical breakdowns and coordinate with supervisors to resolve issues effectively, providing translated reports for better decision-making.
  8. Site Management: Support 6S site management initiatives, ensuring that the work environment adheres to safety, cleanliness, and organizational standards.
  9. Additional Duties: Assist with any other tasks as assigned by the Factory Director (FD) or relevant supervisors, ensuring accurate translation of instructions.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, the ideal candidate must meet the following criteria:

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution.
  2. Chinese Proficiency: Proficiency in both written and spoken Chinese, with an HSK Level 4 certification or higher from a reputable university in China.
  3. Translation Experience: Proven experience working as a Chinese Translator, especially in a manufacturing or FMCG environment.
  4. Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to work under pressure and deliver accurate translations efficiently.
  5. Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with production processes and technical terms used in the manufacturing sector.
  6. Office Software Proficiency: Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) to create and translate reports, presentations, and other necessary documentation.
  7. Experience in Manufacturing: Experience working in a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) factory will be an added advantage.
