Lion Landscapes is a leading force in large carnivore conservation and research, committed to safeguarding lions, their prey, and their habitats. Partnered with Oxford University’s Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (WildCRU), we operate independent programs across Kenya, Zambia, and Tanzania. In Kenya, our work is focused in Laikipia County. Job Description

As Lion Landscapes advances its ambitious strategy, we are seeking a Grant Writer & Coordinator to join our dedicated fundraising team. This role is crucial in identifying and securing funding opportunities, managing grant applications, and crafting compelling narratives that enhance our success rate. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, adept at working with international teams, and experienced in managing diverse stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities

1. Grant Management

  • Manage approximately 25 grantors annually, ensuring the timely submission of applications and reports (interim, final, technical, and budget).
  • Develop and maintain Salesforce for grant management, tracking income vs. budget to identify gaps and opportunities.

2. Proposal Writing

  • Write creatively about Lion Landscapes’ programs, crafting grant proposals and supporting documents that effectively highlight our impact.
  • Create compelling narratives that tie each grant to specific project goals, showcasing the significance of our work.

3. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with Field Team management to align proposals with actual project plans and deliverables.
  • Maintain positive relationships with funders and stakeholders, coordinating communications and interactions to build trust and engagement.

4. Reporting

  • Create comprehensive grant reports that encourage donor engagement and demonstrate the success of our programs.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in grant writing, with a proven track record of securing both small and large grants, particularly for conservation and community-related funding.
  • Excellent creative writing skills, with the ability to articulate complex programs in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Familiarity with AI tools to enhance grant writing efficiency, with a strong interest in developing and refining AI models to optimize proposal processes.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organization, ensuring all aspects of the grants process are managed effectively.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, often managing multiple reports simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Salesforce, Google platform, and team collaboration tools for remote working communications and deadline management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel to field sites or meet funders if required.

Position Details

  • Employment Type: Full-time, salaried.
  • Salary: Commensurate with experience and background.
  • Location: Remote.
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Occasionally required to work outside normal office hours to meet deadlines.
  • Reports To: Director of Fundraising and Communications.
