Job Summary
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is actively seeking a passionate and driven individual to join our team as an Intern – Project Development in Nairobi, Kenya. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work with the Cities Investment Facility (CIF), a key initiative supporting sustainable urban development projects globally, particularly in low and middle-income countries. About the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat)
UN-Habitat is the United Nations agency for human settlements, focused on promoting socially and environmentally sustainable cities and communities. Our mission is to support countries in addressing urbanization challenges and achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). The Cities Investment Facility (CIF), where this internship is centered, is a multi-stakeholder initiative designed to channel investment into urban development projects, enhancing early-stage design and project origination.
Key Responsibilities
As an Intern – Project Development, you will support various aspects of project ideation, feasibility analysis, and preparation within the CIF Project Pipeline. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Project Development Support: Assisting in the delivery of ideation, feasibility analysis, and preparation for urban development infrastructure projects. This includes engaging with global experts and partners to monitor and guide project development.
- Sustainable Finance: Collaborating with current and potential partners, including commercial and private investors, to develop project pipelines and support the development of partnership agreements.
- Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Integration: Assisting in the identification and incorporation of ESG and SDG-oriented methodologies within the CIF to enhance project outcomes.
- Donor Tracker Development: Supporting the creation of a Donor Tracker, a comprehensive database of relevant investors and financiers, to aid in launching a new Feasibility Fund.
- Partnership and Strategy Support: Contributing to the operationalization of CIF’s strategy, roadmap, and business model, and assisting in developing necessary materials for partnerships.
Qualifications and Skills
To be considered for this internship, candidates must meet one of the following academic requirements:
- Graduate Enrollment: Currently enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
- Undergraduate Enrollment: Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
- Post-Graduation Eligibility: Recently graduated with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, Ph.D., or equivalent degree.
Preferred Areas of Study:
Candidates with a background in Project Management, Sustainable Finance, Corporate Social Responsibility, Environmental Social Governance (ESG), Economics, Urban Planning, or related fields will be given preference.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Strong Command of English: Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN language, such as French, is desirable.
- Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
